Arte plumario: naturaleza, identidad y poder

The National Museum of Natural Sciences is hosting the exhibition Feather Art: Nature, Identity and Power from 16 July 2026 to 17 January 2027, which demonstrates through a selection of pieces how, over time, feathers have evolved from a simple material into a significant cultural element.

This exhibition examines the history of the use of feathers across various fields: science, history, anthropology, art and critical museology. This usage has led to the decline of many bird species, which in turn resulted in the creation of conservation movements for these animals.

The exhibition includes a vibrant encounter between the past and the present, embodied in the work of Henar Iglesias, a milliner born in San Sebastián in 1981. This creator takes up the mantle of traditional feather art and brings it into the 21st century, not as a mere copy, but as a reinvention. Through her pieces, Henar Iglesias invites attendees to reflect critically upon this discipline, challenging and renewing its profound meanings.
