Contrainformació: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari. El gest de filmar. El vídeo a la Col·lecció MACBA

We present a new exhibition from the MACBA Collection, dedicated to the presence of video and articulating three moments and contexts of the moving image, captured in three proposals: Contrainformació: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, Ecos.

Vídeos de la donació de la Fundació Han Nefkens, and Pere Portabella: la mirada compromesa.

These three initiatives are integrated within the same constellation of practices that understand video as a form of attention to the real: it is not merely a matter of recording, but also of activating gazes, presences, and narratives often situated on the margins of official history.

Thus, in Contrainformació: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, the audiovisual apparatus operates not only as a recording tool, but as a situated and collective practice, inseparable from the social contexts in which it emerges.

This material gathers social and political realities that are stratified at a key moment of historical reconstruction and informative accumulation, the early years of the Transition, and reclaims them from a critical perspective.

The camera becomes a space of interlocution and co-responsibility, where communities actively participate in the production of their own image and in the construction of an archive that is simultaneously memory and process. The video works presented in Ecos.

Vídeos de la donació de la Fundació Han Nefkens prolong this same concern from the field of contemporary artistic practice.

These pieces incorporate contemporary and counter-narrative languages: the texture of the image becomes more experiential, narration ceases to be lineal, experimentation is worked upon, and languages of juxtaposition are explored.

Through diverse formal strategies, they address the intimate, the social, and the political as territories of experience, configuring video as a place of listening and critical thought.

Added to this itinerary is Pere Portabella: la mirada compromesa, a screening programme dedicated to the films of the filmmaker
