Integral de les Suites per a violoncel de Bach amb Jean-Guihen Queyras

Artist profile Jean-Guihen Queyras, cello Programme J.

As part of the events commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pau Casals, the Palau de la Música Catalana presents the complete concert of Bach's Cello Suites, performed by cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras.

The musician will perform the six suites for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, considered one of the most important and representative works in the cello repertoire.

These compositions hold a prominent place in the history of music and maintain a close connection with the legacy of Pau Casals.

It was precisely Pau Casals who, at the beginning of the 20th century, rediscovered these works—which until then had a limited presence on stage—and brought them to international prominence.

His interpretation and recording of the six suites contributed decisively to turning them into fundamental pieces of the cello repertoire.

With this performance, Jean-Guihen Queyras pays homage to one of Casals' most cherished works and to his contribution to the dissemination of Bach's music.

The concert also offers a new opportunity to rediscover these compositions through the interpretive vision of one of the outstanding cellists of his generation, who returns to the Palau de la Música Catalana thirteen years after his last complete performance of these suites.
