La transición estética. España, 1960-2020

From 16 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, the Fundación Juan March presents to the public an exhibition offering a visual journey through Spanish art from 1960 to the present day

This exhibition offers a broad overview of Spanish artistic production over the past six decades, exploring how art has transitioned from modernity to contemporary practices. It brings together key works that showcase ruptures, continuities and formal experimentations in painting, sculpture, drawing, installation and audiovisual media.

The journey is not limited to a chronological analysis, but raises questions about the very act of exhibiting, the role of the museum and the aesthetic tensions that have shaped art in Spain since the sixties.

Through this lens, the exhibition invites visitors to observe how artists have responded to social, political and cultural changes, and how they have constructed new aesthetics from specific contexts. It also reflects on the exhibition as a cultural act and its evolution over time. La transición estética. España, 1960-2020 thus becomes an invitation to rethink our perspective on recent Spanish art and its relevance to the present.
