Overview

The Library and Documentation Centre of the Museo Reina Sofía is hosting an exhibition from 26 June to 9 October dedicated to the figure of Blanca Sánchez Berciano (Madrid, 1948-2007), a Spanish exhibition curator, cultural manager and collector, considered the seed and a key figure of La Movida Madrileña.

The exhibition highlights her creative drive from a camp perspective and her collage practice as a methodology for constructing a conceptual reality based on the articulation of visual and material fragments. Supported by various documents, Leche, nieve, lágrima, mano reviews Sánchez's work through her making, which establishes her as a key figure in Madrid's culture over the last fifty years. Her presence is invoked in the anonymous piece that gives the exhibition its title, preserved in the Blanca Sánchez Berciano Archive. Blanca in a glass of milk. Everyday, raw and ephemeral Blanca like snow. A Blanca who is moved, who weeps and laughs, and who invites us to reach out to one another.

Blanca Sánchez Berciano trained between London, Frankfurt, Paris and Cologne. In 1971 she returned to Francoist Madrid. During her career spanning almost forty years, she worked in teams such as those of the Vandrés (1971-1980) and Vijande (1981-1986) galleries, and the Círculo de Bellas Artes (1992-2006). Although many of the materials presented hint at the effervescence of the Madrid scene, the exhibition encompasses her entire career.

The exhibition has been produced by a group of students from the Curating pathway of the Master's Degree in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture, organised by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Museo Reina Sofía
