Llegir la processó de Corpus. Objectes per fabular i pregar, honorar, afimrar i sentir

The curator of the exhibition, art historian Albert Cortés, offers us a look at the Corpus Christi procession through the objects and other corporeal elements that take part in it.

All the city's institutions, both civil and ecclesiastical, joined forces in a great celebration to pay homage to the Sacramented Christ. But the procession was also an occasion to show off and make a display, to manifest authority and power, to see and be seen.

All these aspects were and are made present in Barcelona's Corpus through various objects that danced, sounded, burned or were simply carried to communicate to the spectators, explicitly or symbolically, who was carrying it, what their place was in the procession and what they wanted to represent.

For more than 700 years, the people of Barcelona have been adding, modifying or removing these objects up to the present day; but whether they are part of our present or a distant past, they all speak to us about ways of relating: between God and the people, between neighbours and communities, between estates and sexes.

With these premises as a starting point, the exhibition offers us a look at the Corpus procession based on the objects and other corporeal elements that take part in it.
