Misterios de la materia. Ciencia del patrimonio en las colecciones del MAN

The National Archaeological Museum presents a tour focused on the application of science and technology to the study of historical remains.

This exhibition project, organised in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain (IPCE), reveals the analytical techniques applied to the holdings of the National Archaeological Museum. Visitors journey through six thematic rooms designed to show how scientific disciplines help to date objects, understand the manufacturing methods of past civilisations and plan the preventive conservation of archaeological pieces.

The display presents an educational approach to historical-artistic research through the material analysis of cultural goods. The visit is aimed at archaeology enthusiasts and the general public interested in the technical processes that underpin the preservation of historical heritage at this museum centre in Madrid.
