Overview
As part of "Acció Portabella", an initiative celebrating the filmmaker's centenary, a screening programme dedicated to his films expands the constellation of practices surrounding the moving image present in the museum's collection.
His work is inscribed in a moment marked by censorship and the lack of freedoms, in which cinema also became a way of making visible what remained off-screen.
Portabella works from the margins of the industry and established languages, constructing a cinema that eludes linear narration to open up spaces for reading and thought.
With this gesture, he links the image to forms of clandestinity, resistance and the exposure of what remains hidden.
