100 watercolours illustrated by Dalí on commission from the Italian government, later converted into prints using the woodcut technique.

In 1950, the Italian government commissioned Salvador Dalí to illustrate The Divine Comedy to commemorate the seventh centenary of the birth of Dante, who wrote this poem of 14,000 verses starting in the year 1300.

The work describes Dante's great journey through Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, accompanied by Virgil as a guide on commission from his beloved Beatrice.

Dalí dedicated ten years to this work, creating 100 original watercolours (34 of Hell, 33 of Purgatory and 33 of Paradise), which were later transformed into prints using the woodcut technique. You can check further information about the exhibition "Salvador Dalí.
