Trames. Obres tradicionals i creacions contemporànies americanes

The exhibition, curated by Estela Ocampo, proposes an approach to American cultures through their artistic expressions and the belief and thought systems reflected within them.

The tour is structured around the relationship between works by six contemporary artists and pieces from the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món, highlighting both the persistence and the transformation of cultural traditions that connect the past and the present.

One of the central motifs of the exhibition is "wefts", not only due to the presence of the lines that trace the figures of Andean pieces and kené — a complex system of geometric patterns that intertwine to ornament a great diversity of supports on Shipibo-Konibo textiles and ceramics — but also because of the wefts that link these heritage pieces with contemporary creations and with the voices of the artists.
