This year 2026 Barcelona has been named the World Capital of Architecture.

This year 2026, Barcelona has been named the World Capital of Architecture. As part of this event, the Museu Marítim is presenting this exhibition to look back at the origin and history of one of the city's most emblematic buildings.

The Royal Shipyards are internationally recognised for their monumentality and their good state of conservation, and in 1976 they were declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument. Their origin dates back to the 13th century, during the reign of Peter the Great.

In successive centuries they were expanded and modified until reaching the appearance we know today.

The exhibition takes a journey through the different moments and uses of this complex, considered to be the largest and most complete medieval shipyards preserved in the world, and a unique example of civil Gothic architecture.
