Vitrina 0. Fragmento de la titulatura real de Adijalamani

Showcase Case 0 of the Museo de San Isidro presents, from 2 June to 25 October, a fragment of the royal titulature of Adijalamani, a stone inscription in which the kings of Egypt and also the monarchs of Meroe had a titulature composed of five names, of which the names “King of Upper and Lower Egypt” and “Son of Ra” were surrounded by ovals that we call cartouches. This exhibited fragment corresponds to the end of the title “Son of Ra” of the Meroitic king Adijalamani, builder of the oldest chapel of the Debod temple.

The inscription, written in Egyptian hieroglyphs and arranged horizontally, preserves the words “...Isis, eternally” and the first letter of the name of the god Amun.

It was initially thought to belong to the decoration of the exterior door of the chapel, but closer examination has determined that this cartouche was located inside that room, above its access door, thus solving a small archaeological enigma.
