Overview
From 14 July to 18 October 2026, the National Archaeological Museum (MAN) presents a temporary exhibition in its Showcase ZERO that offers a unique approach to the origins and evolution of the performing arts in Antiquity.
Theatre survives as one of the main artistic disciplines since its birth in 6th-century BC Greece. Inherited by Rome, this tradition spread throughout the empire, leaving testimonies on the Iberian Peninsula as imposing as the Roman theatre of Sagunto, whose declaration as a National Monument marks its 130th anniversary this year.
Through a careful selection of bibliographic and museum collections, the exhibition highlights the value of unique pieces from the museum's holdings and external contributions. Among the bibliographic funds, the emblematic edition of The Gods of Greece and Rome or Greco-Roman Mythology (1880-1881) stands out. A perfect quarterly opportunity to discover how the authors, genres and staging of Greco-Latin culture remain fully relevant today.
