Overview
As part of the Abierto x Obras programme comes this site-specific exhibition by the artist Carlos Aires, which can be visited at Nave 0 in Matadero Madrid from 11 September to 24 January. In it, the creator encourages the public to enter a dance floor inside a propped-up space, an installation that functions as a sculptural ensemble where visitors will move through emotions such as euphoria and unease.
The exhibition deploys more than one hundred props and around twenty screens in what was the former cold storage room of the municipal slaughterhouse. The visible scars of this space, charred in a past fire, as well as the memory of its violence, have served as the artist's starting point for his installation.
Ruins, darkness and euphoria merge into a sensory piece that introduces the visitor to a metal forest populated by mysterious characters who accompany them through its unsettling soundscape. Dance and unease, night and euphoria go hand in hand in this piece, which marks his first solo exhibition for a public institution in Madrid.
