Programme

In his quest for the original sound, and after exploring Beethoven's symphonies and Mendelssohn's universe, Maestro Savall returns to L’Auditori to bring us closer to one of the fundamental works of Germanic romanticism: A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms. In a context of growing secularism, the composer from Hamburg approaches a spirituality that goes beyond the religious fact, despite the Protestant background of this splendid symphonic-choral piece.

The evening is complemented by the Song of Destiny (Schicksalslied op. 54) by the same composer. This is a brief and prominent piece for choir and orchestra, premiered in 1871 and based on a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin. The work contrasts the joyful destiny of heavenly beings with the painful and restless destiny of humans.
