Overview
Charlotte Perriand is the major retrospective exhibition that the Fundació Joan Miró is presenting this autumn.
It fits fully within the guiding thread of this year's programme: a profound re-reading of architecture as a living space, as a language and as a way of positioning ourselves in the world. In this sense, Perriand is an essential figure.
She was one of the few women who managed to enter the great temple of modern architectural and urban creation, the Atelier Le Corbusier, and not as a silent assistant, but as a creator with her own voice capable of transforming the logic of modern design.
From those early years onwards, she defended a key idea: that art, architecture and design are inseparable, a synthesis capable of changing the way we live, a principle that resonates naturally with the Foundation, where architecture and creation are conceived as a unique experience.
The exhibition, organised with the Kunstmuseen de Krefeld and the Museum der Moderne de Salzburg and the result of a collaboration with the Fundación BBVA, positions Barcelona as a space of historical and creative affinities.
Here, the dialogue between Perriand and Josep Lluís Sert takes on special prominence: they both met in 1928 working in Le Corbusier's workshop and maintained a lifelong friendship and intellectual complicity.
During the Spanish Civil War and the outbreak of the Second World War, Perriand even hosted Sert and Moncha Longás in her small Paris apartment.
Later, their paths diverged (Sert and Longás towards the United States; Perriand towards Japan and Indochina), but the flow of thought and exchange was never interrupted.
Proof of this are episodes such as the monographic report that Sert dedicated to her in the fifties or Perriand's presence at the inauguration of the Fundació Joan Miró in 1976.
With previously unseen content and a perspective that places Perriand in her real ecosystem (a network of creators, architects and ideas that spans Paris, Barcelona, the
