Overview

The gardens of the Museo Lázaro Galdiano host an open-air sculpture exhibition from 9 September to 15 November, organised in collaboration with Arte Madrid to mark the celebration of the Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend. In addition, it is held within the framework of the XXX Ibero-American Summit, which will meet to strengthen regional cooperation, innovation and sustainable development.

The exhibition brings together thirteen Ibero-American artists and presents a journey through the tensions, dialogues and frictions that exist between systems of order and the organic experience of contemporary existence. The works examine how geometry, structure and repetition coexist with that which escapes control: the body, time, memory, chance and the constant transformation of the living.

Associated with rationality, progress and abstraction, since the historical avant-gardes the grid has become a universal language capable of ordering space and reducing the complexity of the world to legible systems. Despite this, against this desire for control appear the impulses of the vital: the imperfect, the changing and the sensitive. The contemporary era has precisely questioned this aspiration to stability, revealing the cracks in any seemingly closed structure.

The sculptural pieces in the exhibition move through an intermediate territory where the norm and deviation become a field of experimentation rather than a limit. In several cases, the grid appears as a support, container or visual architecture; in others, it is fragmented, distorted or invaded by organic elements that alter its initial logic.
