Kurt Rosenwinkel

Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel is undoubtedly one of the heroes of modern jazz and one of the scene's most influential and admired musicians. His seventh album as a leader, The Remedy, was recorded live at one of the cathedrals of jazz, the Village Vanguard in New York, in January 2006. It is now 20 years old, and the album remains a reference point—music full of ideas and originals (all by the guitarist himself except for one piece by Mark Turner), unique interaction among the quintet members, and solos that have been studied in every music school around the world over these two decades. Now Rosenwinkel and the members of his quintet (the aforementioned Turner, Aaron Goldberg, Joe Martin, and Eric Harland) have reunited for the first time to revive The Remedy and reaffirm its relevance, as well as to explore new paths. Yes, many of the greats of jazz history have passed on, but we have contemporaries like Kurt Rosenwinkel who continue to make the best music in the universe today.
