Moltes Mercès. Els cartells de la Festa Major

The posters for La Mercè reflect the evolution of Barcelona's Festa Major and, at the same time, the city's cultural, social and artistic transformations.

This exhibition brings together the posters published since 1979, when, with the arrival of democratic local government, La Mercè established itself as a popular, participatory festival open to all citizens.

The early posters from this period, signed by renowned artists and design figures, offered diverse visions of Barcelona and its festival: dances and fireworks, figures from popular culture, reclaimed urban spaces and other symbols that evoked the renewal of the city.

Over the years, the La Mercè poster has incorporated new visual languages.

The perspective of creators from disciplines such as illustration, set design and audiovisuals has broadened the ways of representing the festival and has offered an increasingly rich and diverse vision of Barcelona and its times.

Beyond announcing a celebration, these posters constitute a valuable visual testimony of each era. They show how each generation has reinterpreted the image of La Mercè and Barcelona, and today they form part of the city's heritage and visual memory.
