Overview
Between 1908 and 1930, Galeries Dalmau was one of the most important art exhibition centres in Barcelona. During these years, more than 160 exhibitions were scheduled and at least over 2,000 works were exhibited.
Galeries Dalmau programmed a cubist exhibition in 1912 where Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase was exhibited for the second time in the world.
Likewise, they hosted the avant-garde artists who took refuge in Barcelona during the First World War and programmed the first exhibitions by Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí… Even so, not enough emphasis has been placed on their continuous work as programmers of Catalan artists, of all tendencies and capabilities.
The exhibition "Reconstruint les Galeries Dalmau (1908-1930)" brings together around a hundred of these works, either originals or — if the loan could not be obtained — reproduced in order to show the debate between tradition and modernity that unfolded in Catalonia in those years.
You can consult more information about the exhibition "Reconstruint les Galeries Dalmau (1908-1930)" on the Museu Abelló website. Last updated: 21/04/2026
