Tàpies

Museu Tàpies is joining the centenary programme celebrating the birth of Pere Portabella, curated by Jordi Balló, with a project entitled Tàpies, Portabella. Política de l'amistat.

This project takes as its starting point the personal and professional relationship between the two creators, which extended from their youth during the early Francoist period until the death of Antoni Tàpies in 2012, and beyond.

The case of Tàpies and Portabella, used here as the core of a broader network of cultural agents, offers a model for building political communities based not only on affinities, but also, or above all, on the transformative power of critique and dissent.

By acknowledging heterogeneity and difference as articulating principles, the project will explore both historical and contemporary forms of alliance between art and politics that traverse diverse languages.

This is a proposal by the Institut de Derives Crítiques, a contemporary thought platform that articulates research projects, seminars and publications with the capacity to generate dialogue between the Tàpies legacy and current currents of critical theory, political philosophy and material aesthetics.

For this project, Tània Balló and Pedro G. Romero will join the group's permanent members: Xavier Bassas, Manuel Borja-Villel, Daniel García Andújar, Mabel Tapia and, representing Museu Tàpies, Imma Prieto, Pablo Allepuz, Pau Dito, Maria Sellarès and Patricia Sorroche.
