About — The artist

ABBA, often styled AꓭBA, is a Swedish pop group from Stockholm. Formed on 1 November 1971, the group was originally made up of Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad. At the time they formed, they were two married couples: Agnetha and Björn, Frida and Benny. The group's name is both an acronym and a palindrome, made up of the members' first initials. From 1976, the ambigram — AᗺBA, with a reversed B — was used as the logo.

Winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with Waterloo, ABBA achieved immense worldwide success during the disco era of the mid-1970s. They became one of the best-selling music groups of all time, with sales estimated at 400 million (including 180 million certified sales). In Australia and around the world they experienced a level of success comparable to Beatlemania.

Having split up since 1982, ABBA announced in late April 2018 that its members had reunited during the summer of 2017 to record two new songs, part of their forthcoming album. This album, their ninth, titled Voyage, was released on 5 November 2021. The music videos for the new album do not feature the singers. Since 27 May 2022, they have performed at a venue specially built in London, where their "avatars" (dubbed ABBA-tars for the occasion), filmed beforehand using motion-capture technology, appear on stage as holograms with their faces and outfits from 1979, the idea being for fans to rediscover what they experienced in the past.
