About — The artist
Eliza Rose (born 28 November 1991) is a British DJ, music producer and singer.
Born in London's East End, she grew up in Dalston and started working at the Flashback Records record shop at the age of 14. Passionate about soul and jazz, she has sung since her youth and started mixing in her late teens, once she had enough money to buy records. She went on to higher education and also took music production courses. She hosts a radio show for The Vinyl Factory and has recorded collaborations with various artists.
DJ and producer Interplanetary Criminal sent her the song “B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All)”, for which she wrote the lyrics, inspired by Pam Grier in the film Coffy. The track became a surprise hit, widely played on the London club scene and then at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival. It entered the UK Singles Chart on 29 July 2022 and reached number one in September. She became the first female DJ to top the UK Singles Chart since Sonique in 2000, and the artist with the UK's number-one single on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's death and the start of King Charles III's reign. In December 2022, the track was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
Eliza Rose has also written a novel, What Happens in Dreamland.
