About — The artist
The Last Internationale (TLI) is an American rock band formed by New York guitarist Edgey Pires and singer Delila Paz. The band is known for its socially engaged lyrics and powerful live performances. Pires, who studied political science, cites among his musical influences Howlin' Wolf, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Woody Guthrie. The band's songs address themes such as the situation of Native American nations in the United States, war, working-class poverty, and abuse of power.
In January 2013, the band released a five-track EP titled New York, I Do Mind Dying. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello introduced the band to his drummer, Brad Wilk, who joined The Last Internationale between 2014 and 2015. The band's debut album, We Will Reign, was released on August 19, 2014, produced by Brendan O'Brien and Brendan Benson; it was their last release on Epic Records, a label they left in order to preserve their editorial independence.
The band made its television debut on August 27, 2014, on the Late Show with David Letterman. It opened for Robert Plant in fall 2014, then joined The Who on the European tour The Who Hits 50 in 2015. In 2016, it released Bootleg Kills... Vol. 1, a largely acoustic collection of covers and studio outtakes, followed in February 2019 by Soul on Fire, produced and released independently.
