An underground visit to the Museo del Lapis, devoted to water, in Naples' ancient Greco-Roman cisterns: a route through lighting and water installations and the Second World War shelters.

The Museo del Lapis, devoted to water, is housed in the former Basilica of Pietrasanta and extends through the ancient Greco-Roman cisterns of the city. The route is enriched by lighting and water installations designed by the architect Cosimo Fanzago, and brings to light the underground watercourses of Naples.

The itinerary includes the Decumano sommerso, a route that follows part of the underground passages used as shelters during the Second World War. The different levels are linked by an archaeological lift that descends from the area around the crypt to the underground passages.

The common thread is the history of water and of the subterranean world of Naples, from the cisterns of the Greco-Roman period to the shelters of the twentieth century.
