Dialoghaus Hamburg

At Dialoghaus Hamburg, a permanent exhibition lets visitors experience what it is like to hear nothing and communicate without words. The tour is led by deaf guides in sign language.

Visitors put on noise-cancelling headphones and walk through a series of soundproofed rooms. There, deaf guides present everyday situations as deaf people experience them. The focus is on communication without spoken language: visitors learn to speak with their hands and to take in information through facial expression and eye contact.

The tour is conducted in sign language. At the end, visitors can ask the deaf guide questions with the help of an interpreter, in German or English. The experience is aimed at visitors who want to become familiar with the everyday lives of deaf people.

Dialoghaus Hamburg is an exhibition venue in Hamburg's city centre, on Alten Wandrahm. The exhibition is designed as a permanent display of the collection.
