The Vernon Spring

The Vernon Spring is the recording project of Sam Beste, a musician born in North London. His first musical impressions came from his father's extensive record collection, which ranged from Thelonious Monk to Bob Dylan and on to D'Angelo and Luigi Nono. At the age of eleven, a chance piano lesson led him to his chosen direction, and he developed a lasting passion for improvisation.

Beste served as live pianist for Amy Winehouse for most of her rising career. Further collaborations took him to Gabriels, Sounwave, Beth Orton, Kano, Joy Crookes, Matthew Herbert and MF DOOM, among others. In his mid-twenties he was part of the alt-soul project Hejira; afterwards he helped co-found the collective and label Lima Limo. Since 2019 he has released music under the name The Vernon Spring, which combines his jazz background with contemporary electronic production.

The releases include a debut EP as well as the works A Plane Over Woods, Earth, On A Good Day and, most recently, Under a Familiar Sun. Ethereal piano playing, expressive vocals and subtle electronics are characteristic. The concert at Silent Green, a venue that, by its own description, presents concerts and performances in Berlin, is part of the venue's series.
