Overview

On 30 October 1975, Raimon performed at the Palau d'Esports in Barcelona in a recital that turned into a major pro-democracy demonstration. Nobody knew it yet, but dictator Franco had only three weeks left to live.

In January 1976, the same venue hosted a series of three recitals by Lluís Llach and, a month later, another by Pi de la Serra. The exhibition 50 anys dels concerts de la Transició. Barcelona, Palau d'Esports commemorates the anniversary at the Museu d'Història de Catalunya.

The 50th anniversary of the recitals by Raimon, Lluís Llach and Pi de la Serra at the Palau d'Esports is captured at the Museu d'Història de Catalunya with the exhibition 50 anys dels concerts de la Transició, a project by the Associació Cultura, Debat i Hegemonia, which can be visited from 18 September to 15 November.

Curated by Fermí Puig and produced by Grup Enderrock, it offers a historical and musical journey through the six months that changed the future of the country.

The display brings together texts written by journalist Joaquim Vilarnau, author of the book Trencant el silenci: Els recitals de la Transició (Mina, 2006), photographs by Francesc Fàbregas, Pilar Aymerich and Manel Armengol, as well as original material from the period from the personal archive of Fermí Puig.

It also includes audiovisual footage of the concerts, provided by filmmaker Francesc Bellmunt. The exhibition additionally reflects on the transformation of protest song over the last half century, both in its musical form and its lyrical content.
