Overview

We find ourselves inside an eye, a chamber that opens outwards and produces images. Yet within the excessive light, in the offering of everything to the gaze, there is a radical scarcity. The organ is exhausted, just like us. What would we need in order to see again?

Freely retrieving a fragment from a Renaissance painting, the exhibition poses this possibility: if visionary faculties become extinct, we will need new eyes to sprout within us, we will need gestures that point slightly beyond exhausted visions.

Action is not possible without fantasy, they say; fantasy lies at the root of movement, and that is why we must persist in the exercise of the imagination. My work is an investigation into surfaces, into the imaginary folds of what we call reality.

Stories and images emerge simultaneously with lived experience; they organise it, give it shape and meaning, and allow it to circulate.

Through sculptures, actions and audiovisual works, I explore these questions from both their sensible and narrative dimensions, mobilising, channelling and elaborating reserves of material and imaginary energy. Lúa Coderch
