Barcelona i el cel: globus, aeroplans i fotografia

The desire to fly has always been one of humanity's greatest pursuits. From the Icarus of Greek mythology and Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine, humanity progressed to the Montgolfier hot-air balloons and the first flight in Barcelona in 1910.

The industrial city of that era held a firm belief in industrial evolution and the possibility of conquering the air. This was reflected in the leisure pursuits of affluent society, which scheduled motorcycle and car races, as well as hot-air balloon and aeronautical shows.

The arrival of the aeroplane brought about the true conquest of the city's skies, moving beyond mere sporting spectacle to become a cartographic tool with the application of photography to aerial work.

The exhibition "Barcelona i el cel: globus, aeroplans i fotografia" aims to showcase the journey that the conquest of the urban sky has taken in our city, from the first balloon to take photographs in 1888 to the consolidation of aerial photogrammetry techniques, while also illustrating the evolution of the fields where this new mode of transport developed.
