Overview

El mar, sempre el mar aims to reflect the pulse, the characters and the profound diversity of the Poblenou coastline, as seen by seventeen photographers from twelve different countries.

Today, these beaches bring together locals and visitors of all ages as a kaleidoscopic reflection of the city's Mediterranean soul: a soul of leisure, sport, cultural exchange, connection and coexistence; and also of its challenges, such as tourist overcrowding and social imbalance.

Some images arise from the curiosity and admiration of those arriving from elsewhere, while others are shaped by local sensitivity. During the weeks of fieldwork to understand life on the beach, we needed to belong there both as participants and observers.

In doing so, we became witnesses to the passage of time, captivated by the ever-present sea, always the sea.

El mar, sempre el mar is a physical and online installation conceived and produced for the Museu Can Framis by the students of the 2025-2026 Master's Degree in Photography and Design at Elisava, in collaboration with the Fundació Vila Casas. Artists / Curatorial team: Kritin N.
