Overview
In March we will welcome the Academia de los Nocturnos, conducted by Isaac Alonso, in a concert devoted to one of the great masterpieces of Renaissance polyphony: the Missa Papae Marcelli by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
Regarded as one of the major landmarks of Western sacred music, this mass embodies the aesthetic ideal of the late Renaissance: an extraordinary balance between the richness of its counterpoint, the clarity of the liturgical text and a profound spiritual expressiveness.
Its serene beauty and formal perfection have made it one of the most admired and performed compositions in the choral repertoire of all time. The Academia de los Nocturnos works on the historically informed performance of Renaissance and Baroque vocal repertoire.
Under the direction of Isaac Alonso, the ensemble offers a rigorous and sensitive approach to this masterpiece, attending both to its stylistic features and to its liturgical and expressive dimension.
The performance of the Missa Papae Marcelli invites the listener to immerse themselves in a sound world of extraordinary subtlety, where the voices intertwine with astonishing naturalness to build a musical architecture of balance, luminosity and recollection.
Beyond its historical relevance, the work continues to move audiences through the purity of its writing and the intensity of its spiritual message.
An opportunity to discover – or rediscover – one of the peaks of Renaissance choral art, performed with musicological rigour and the emotion of historical vocal practice. The Academia de los Nocturnos: the Missa Papae Marcelli, a masterpiece of Renaissance polyphony.
