Alexander Zaloopin & Uvazhaemiy

Concert by Alexander Zaloopin and Uvazhaemiy, two punk and rock projects with very different approaches: a masked singer and performer rooted in chanson, and Vitalii Zimin's solo project.

Alexander Zaloopin is a singer and performer who works behind a mask. He emerged in Russia in the mid-2000s as a response to the prison chanson that dominated the scene at the time. He reinterprets that narrative format with irony and theatricality, something that has been described as queer chanson. His album Sweet and Nasty (2009) is a key title in his career, for combining chanson storytelling with a punk attitude. His hoarse voice and extravagant costumes are part of his signature, and his music mixes post-punk, dub, house and other electronic currents.

Uvazhaemiy is the experimental solo project of Vitalii Zimin, a musician based in Berlin and founder of the independent label Crunch Tapes, also linked to Pivnoy Cowboy and other bands. His approach combines distorted guitars, funk rhythms and minimal electronics with theatrical, absurd vocals that change style. He plays with contrasts between irony and emotional sincerity, simplicity and tension, humour and discomfort.

Both projects share the bill at this punk and rock concert at Radio City, a venue that hosts concerts and shows in Valencia. The night brings together two ways of understanding the genre: one through narrative theatricality, the other through experimentation with guitar and electronics.
