Overview
On the very day of her wedding, during the banquet, the Bride decides to escape on horseback with her true love: Leonardo.
The author draws upon a real-life event (the crime committed at the cortijo de Níjar) to tell a tragic story about love and desire pitted against duty, honour and family interests.
Lorca portrays a courageous woman who stands up to her society in pursuit of her desire, a claim that remains just as necessary today.
