Botánica doméstica

The Mª Teresa Telleria exhibition hall at the Real Jardín Botánico is hosting an exhibition from 10 September to 3 November that brings together a selection of paintings, drawings and illustrations created by the visual artist Jorge Bayo throughout his career and focused primarily on elements of the plant world.

The works that can be seen in this exhibition are mainly produced on paper using techniques such as pencil, marker, watercolour and ink, alongside other pictorial proposals. Small flowers, modest leaves, the faint colours of petals, flowering plants, isolated seeds, flowerpots, splendid stems and decaying plant forms can become subjects for the artist to paint, based on the observation of both his everyday surroundings and his numerous visits to the Real Jardín Botánico.

Curated by Virginia Villalobos, this exhibition also includes kakemonos, a personal interpretation of this traditional oriental format, created by Jorge Bayo in oil on polyester paper. Overall, this display offers an approach to the artistic representation of nature from the observation of the everyday, establishing a dialogue between artistic practice and the plant environment of the Real Jardín Botánico in Madrid.
