El deber de lo nuevo

The first floor of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo hosts an exhibition from 4 June to 17 January that establishes a dialogue between the Afundación Art Collection and the MAC's holdings, comprising a carefully curated selection of contemporary works and artists who employ innovative languages, original techniques, personal aesthetics, and great visual power.

The exhibition allows us to take part in the relationships proposed between works from the Afundación Art Collection and the splendid collection of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, which treasures a diverse production and reflects the great creativity found in Madrid. The relationship between the two establishes coincidences in terms of the chosen themes, the aesthetics put forward, or their creative languages, enabling us to establish new connections and unexpected links.

The exhibition traces a route through some of the most interesting names on the current artistic scene, allowing us to enjoy the freedom, creativity, and personality with which contemporary art reflects our lives from a multiplicity of areas, providing new havens for our spirit and contributing to our deepest reflection.

Comprising more than five thousand works, the Afundación Art Collection is considered the most important private collection of contemporary Galician art. Its holdings, besides including outstanding pieces of Spanish and Portuguese creation, cover the essential stages of art born in Galicia from the 19th to the 21st century. Its importance earned it the declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) by the Xunta de Galicia in 2015, thus ratifying a project initiated more than five decades ago.
