Humanizer – Artificial Cognition

Humanizer exhibition at the Amics de les Arts i Joventuts Musicals de Terrassa exhibition space, focusing on a humanoid that answers questions and reacts with gestures to the dialogue it holds.

The proposal Humanizer – Artificial Cognition presents a humanoid that listens to questions and produces answers. Its eyes and mouth react to the dialogue with gestures and physical movements, while its heart changes the rhythm and intensity of its heartbeats. In this way, an artificial intelligence that is usually hidden behind an interface acquires a body that appears to observe, speak and be moved.

The work starts from the growing delegation of tasks to artificial systems, such as remembering, writing, searching or comparing, and dwells on a less visible dimension: emotional delegation. It consists of asking a machine to help name what we feel or to interpret a personal bond. The work does not present this relationship either as a threat or as a promise.

Rather than demonstrating that the machine feels like a person, the proposal reverses the gaze and leads us to question our own capacity to recognise emotions, perceive gestures, attend to others and sustain the bonds that connect us.
