Maria Girona i el tapís

The exhibition by Maria Girona features her paintings and the only tapestry she made in Sant Cugat. It also specially recovers the tapestry "Oval rosat", a 105x145 cm work created by the artist in June 1967.

This piece constitutes one of the most significant testimonies of her participation in the renewal of contemporary tapestry, a movement that involved some of the country's most important artists and transformed the traditional language of tapestry into a discipline fully integrated within contemporary art.

In this context, Maria Girona brought a personal, sensitive and innovative perspective. Maria Girona (1923-2015) developed an artistic career marked by the elegance of forms, chromatic subtlety and deep poetic sensitivity.

Her work, both pictorial and textile, represents an essential contribution to Catalan artistic modernity and to the progressive incorporation of women into the main currents of contemporary art.
