Museo de Memorias Inconstantes

La Casa Encendida hosts from 3 September to 24 January 2027 an exhibition project that arises from the collaboration between the Museo de la Universidad de Navarra in the context of its Master's Degree in Curatorial Studies and La Casa Encendida of Fundación Montemadrid, with the support of the Fundación Palazuelo.

Through fifteen works from the Generaciones 2000-2024 Collection belonging to Fundación Montemadrid, the exhibition starts from the idea that remembering involves rewriting the past from a personal viewpoint. Thus, the works seek to be representations of fragments of personal experiences capable of being re-articulated to generate unique interpretations of the past.

Curated by Angie Grijalva, ShaLynne Ouellette and Elena Stanley Tobin, the exhibition's mission is to reflect on the dynamic nature of memory, taking as its starting point the metaphor of Jorge Luis Borges that relates memory and museum in his 1969 poem "Cambridge": « Somos nuestra memoria, somos ese quimérico museo de formas inconstantes, ese montón de espejos rotos ». Alongside Borges, texts by Mark Twain and Vladimir Nabokov are presented to emphasise the idea of memory as a creative activity.
