Nación Trans. Un proyecto de Antonio López

The Museo de América hosts this photographic project that examines the historical roots and current persistence of discrimination against indigenous trans women.

The Sala La Tapada at the Museo de América presents this work by Antonio López Díaz focusing on the situation of trans women in indigenous communities of the Americas. Through the images brought together along the route, the visitor observes both the vulnerability stemming from colonial and normative systems and the strategies of resistance and solidarity that these women develop from the margins.

The exhibition reviews how various American societies recognised plural gender identities prior to the arrival of European colonisers. The exhibition setup details the imposition of a binary moral order that marginalised those traditions and analyses the current consequences of such historical processes on the bodily autonomy and social exclusion of this group. The visit is aimed at audiences interested in anthropological issues and documentary photography.

This Madrid cultural centre offers this visual itinerary as part of its regular temporary exhibition programme. The curator structures the rooms to encourage reflection on historical memory and the defence of identity rights on the American continent.
