Novena Sinfonía de Beethoven

An evening of classical music featuring the world premiere of A. Petrovic, the Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto performed by violinist Sherry Tse and Brahms's German Requiem, with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony as the reference point of the programme.

The evening takes its title from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the last symphony completed by the German composer and the one that incorporates a choir in its final movement, setting Schiller's poem An die Freude.

The programme opens with the world premiere of A. Petrovic's work. Next, violinist Sherry Tse performs the Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto by He Zhanhao and Chen Gang, from the contemporary Chinese repertoire, with lyricism, virtuosity and a musical narrative about a story of love and transformation.

The second half is devoted to Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45, by Johannes Brahms, in seven movements. Brahms composed it with German texts taken from the Bible in Luther's translation, rather than the Latin liturgy, and the work revolves around consolation, remembrance and hope. The Auditorio Nacional de Madrid is a concert and performance venue in the capital.
