Panda Bear & Sonic Boom

Panda Bear & Sonic Boom at Sala Copérnico

Following the success of ‘Reset’, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom return with A ? of when, an album which, beyond its artistic merits, has the distinction of not being available on any streaming platform. This is a deliberate decision by the two artists, who have grown weary of the dynamics of the world we find ourselves living in.

A ? of WHEN, published on 10 July 2026, keeps the musical playfulness of Reset, built on loops of harp, sequences of steel drums, pedal steel textures and even fragments of a mariachi band from Mexico City. At one point, Panda Bear performs a yodel with great skill. These are, of course, deliberate choices: sounds and textures they had never used before, marking a clear sonic break from the success of Reset. And the result works perfectly. From the pastoral psychedelia of Something Like Dreaming and the Wall of Sound-style soul of Like a Moth to a Flame, to the deceptively simple skiffle of Revive Him, which is strangely distorted, listening to A ? of WHEN is like being a child again in this duo's musical playground, bounding enthusiastically from one attraction to the next.
