Overview

The artist José Luis Rey Vila (Cádiz, 1900 - Paris, 1983), better known as Sim, left behind one of the most vivid testimonies of the drama of the Spanish Civil War, specifically in Barcelona.

Continuing along the lines established by the Museum years ago, focused on the Civil War, nearly fifty drawings by this artist that have been recently acquired by the Museu Nacional will be exhibited.

All of them were created during the war period, of which Sim was one of the most prominent chroniclers.

These are creations of great quality and expression, capturing various aspects of the armed conflict, from the brutality of battle between soldiers to the evacuations of the civilian population.

This acquisition is part of a policy to grow the Civil War collections, whether through acquisitions or donations, such as that of the artist Helios Gómez, carried out during 2025.

These new additions to the collection, both in terms of works and artists, enrich the wartime holdings with a view to the expansion of the Museum, where this theme will have a prominent space. Curator: Eduard Vallès
