Inner Spaces

Hélène Vogelsinger at Auditorium San Fedele

A sacred representation (Il tuo volto io cerco) built entirely on the vocal works of Arvo Pärt and on three electronic interventions by Robert Lippok, arranged according to a liturgical order. Each section presents a precise thematic core, to which Lippok responds with an electronic resonance conceived as an extension of the acoustic space. Ars Discantica performs brief vocal transitions that maintain the continuity of the flow.

The section opens with a series of Psalms: Peace Upon You, Jerusalem for female choir, followed by Zwei slawische Psalmen and Cantate Domino: pieces that alternate between invocation, supplication and luminosity. Lippok intervenes with a first electronic interlude conceived as an expansion of the resonance left by the choir.

At the heart of the programme, the Missa syllabica represents one of the most emblematic moments of Pärt's tintinnabuli turn. The following electronic interlude extends the suspension generated by the Mass.

The section gathers three Christological works: Which Was the Son of…, a meditation on the genealogy of Christ; Morning Star, a brief luminous invocation; Da pacem Domine, an ancient Latin antiphon asking for peace in difficult days. A third interlude prepares the conclusion.

The representation closes with And I heard a voice…, from the Book of Revelation: an essential, suspended piece that announces the blessedness of the righteous with a calm that widens like a breath. Here all the performers are present: Ars Discantica and Robert Lippok.
