Jean-Michel Blais was born in 1984 in Nicolet and has been active since 2015 as a pianist, composer and performer. The first release came in 2016 with the album ‘Il’. Instrumentation and composition serve Blais as a means of making his own origins, childhood and life experiences audible, as a traveller, a student and a carer.
The fourth album, mirador, due for release in September 2026, describes a journey with choirs, strings and music from the Andes. It leads from Spanish caves through Estonian forests back to the small town of Nicolet in Quebec. In the process, Blais trades contemporary minimalism for a light, generous maximalism. The focus turns to childhood and imagined worlds.
