Jüdisches Museum Berlin

The Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB) in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg is one of the largest Jewish museums in Europe. It opened in September 2001 as a foundation under public law. Through its exhibitions and further offerings, it conveys the history of Jews in Germany and Jewish culture up to the present day.

The museum today consists of an ensemble of three buildings. On Lindenstraße stand the Baroque Kollegienhaus and a zigzag-shaped new building by the architect Daniel Libeskind. On the opposite side of Lindenstraße, since 2012, is the “W. Michael Blumenthal Akademie” in the former Blumengroßmarkthalle. The Akademie houses the archive, the library, museum education and ANOHA, the “Kinderwelt des Jüdischen Museums Berlin” that opened in 2021.

The museum is one of the most visited museums in Germany. From its opening in 2001 until 2015, it welcomed 10 million visitors. Each day there are around 2,000 visitors, and around 700,000 a year.

The permanent exhibition Jüdische Geschichte und Gegenwart in Deutschland opened in 2020. It offers an overview of 1,700 years of German-Jewish history, culture and present-day life in Germany.
