A Place to Dance

Centro Cultural Conde Duque hosts the Madrid premiere of A Place to Dance from 15 to 17 October, a dance piece born from the encounter between Brazilian dancer and choreographer Poliana Lima and British flamenco dance artist Yinka Esi Graves.

This artistic encounter encompasses the desire to present the body in its collective dimension and to position dance as a powerful agent for creating and transforming spaces. In this way, Poliana Lima and Yinka Esi Graves, with their numerous cultural heritages, shape their choreographic discourse through dialogue and rhythmic play, in which the latter is recognised as a non-hegemonic ancestral technology.

This dance piece represents an opening in space and time that proposes participation in the potential of dance to transform any space into a place to dance, into a place to belong, an act where the audience is invited to participate by dancing and to watch dancing.

Lima and Graves present their choreography through a rhythmic dialogue, where the sonorities of their bodies are captured live and edited, thus creating a constantly evolving and mutating soundtrack. Meanwhile, DJ Oumoukala is responsible for the opening and closing of the act.
