Emily

Performers Ascen Soto, Gabriela Feldman, Jade Baldó and Velutto present a show paying tribute to the artist Camila Cañeque on 10 October in the Sala de Cristal at Teatros del Canal.

It is a reinterpretation conceived from care, respect and listening to Cañeque's creative universe. Far from being posed as a closed reconstruction, the proposal seeks to reactivate one of her most representative works, keeping her artistic thought alive through new voices and bodies.

The performance brings together on stage figures such as Emily Dickinson, the Brontë sisters, Emily Davison and Emilia Pardo Bazán. But rather than literary or historical references, these names function as echoes and fragments that converge in a collective self, where different female experiences dialogue and intertwine.

Born in Barcelona in 1984, Camila Cañeque was a conceptual artist and philosopher whose career focused on exploring the exhaustion of contemporary societies through performances, installations, objects and texts.

Her work, marked by silence, stillness and inactivity as a response to the acceleration of today's world, could be seen in leading national and international institutions and spaces: CaixaForum, the Lucía Mendoza gallery, La Juan Gallery, the Museo Lázaro Galdiano, Kulturhuset in Stockholm, Vermelho Gallery in São Paulo and Microscope Gallery, The Kitchen, Glasshouse Project and The Queens Museum in New York. She passed away on 14 February 2024 at the age of 39 from sudden death.
