Cristina de Suecia. Pasión por la escultura

The Museo del Prado hosts an exhibition from 6 October to 7 February 2027 in Room 74 of the Villanueva Building, bringing together several pieces that form part of the museum's most valuable collection of classical sculptures. These works come from the collection assembled by Queen Christina of Sweden in Rome, later acquired by Isabel de Farnesio and incorporated into the Spanish royal collections.

Curated by Manuel Arias Rodríguez, Head of the Sculpture Collection up to 1700 at the Museo Nacional del Prado, the exhibition includes pieces from the Hellenistic period, Roman copies of Greek originals, portraits, imperial busts, Baroque sculptures that incorporate original ancient fragments… and even a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's treatise on painting dedicated to the sovereign.

Alongside this exhibition, the Museo del Prado and the Embassy of Sweden in Spain have organised a joint programme of activities that examines the legacy of Christina of Sweden from several fields of knowledge. Participants will include figures such as the writer Theodor Kallifatides, the illustrator Liv Strömquist, the Spanish astronaut Sara García Alonso and the Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang.
