Descender

The Sala de Bóvedas at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque hosts the group exhibition Descender from 18 February to 13 June 2027, an artistic proposal that invites visitors to venture underground to explore new ways of understanding space and contemporary creation. Inspired by philosopher María Zambrano's famous idea of thinking as an act of descent, the exhibition makes use of the venue's distinctive underground architecture to set up a dialogue between matter, memory and sensory perception.

The project brings together the work of ten artists through very diverse formats that combine sculpture, sound, light and visual installations. The route begins with historical works by Jorge Eduardo Eielson, in the form of a sound poem that accompanies the descent of the access staircase, and by Ángeles Marco, known for her pieces in rubber and steel.

The main rooms feature works such as the striking installation Non é fácile essere un Arco, by Carmen de Ayora and Toni Hervás, based on alchemical and mythological symbols; the sculptural and sound proposal by Eulàlia Valldosera, presented through a water circuit; and the hybrid forms of Jimena Kato, made with ceramics and magnetic powder. The exhibition is completed by the sculptures of Ana Mazzei and Ludovica Carbotta, the actions of Élan d'Orphium and a lighting design by Sofía Montenegro that visually connects all the rooms.
